Have you had your requisite dose of Ammonia today? Well, did you have
sausages for breakfast at a fast food place? For lunch, did you have fast food hamburger or a deli sandwich filled with sliced lunch meat or fabricated roast beef? Or, did you decide instead to grab a taco or a slice or two of pepperoni pizza? Believe it or not, all of these meats probably contain:
PINK SLIME!!!
Welcome to America and the latest food industry concoction designed to make Beef Products, Inc. (BPI) a whopping $440 million bucks a year! These people are the ones who figured out what to do with all those fatty sweepings from the slaughterhouse floors that normally got thrown away or put in pet food. These sweepings are packed full of dangerous pathogens, like E. coli 0157 and antibiotic-resistant salmonella. BPI came up with the idea to soak the sweepings in ammonia to kill these pathogens and sell them to food manufacturers as “filler.”
The USDA OK’d this as long as just 15% of the meat is composed of Pink Slime. The USDA also decided that Ammonia doesn’t have to be included in the “list of ingredients” because it is supposedly used up in the manufacturing. (It just disappears, evaporates into nothingness. If you believe that, I’ve got some swamp land in Florida I’d like you to look at).
Unfortunately, this means that ALL of us have probably eaten pink slime at one time or another. BPI sells to the federal school lunch program, which means that nearly every child in America has eaten their share of it. Frozen dinner entrees probably contain it, as do pre-packaged meat balls and beef sticks.
How do you avoid it? Change your eating habits. Stop eating at fast food establishments unless the meat is labeled 100% of whatever it is supposed to be. Don’t buy ground meat from just any place. Ask your grocer to grind up a roast for you. I shop at Whole Foods Market, where (Thank God!) most of their food is what you think it is.
It took Jamie Oliver to uncover this nasty stuff. What else is hidden from the American consumer? No wonder so many people have health problems of all sorts today. People continue to trust the Food Industry and their government to protect them. It is obvious that neither on has our best interests at heart. Another sad awakening!

We’ve all seen it–very young kids, even babies, drinking juice and sodas instead of wholesome organic milk and eating processed cereals instead of scrambled eggs or meats with vegetables or a whey protein shake for breakfast. These are children whose parents believe the latest “healthy” claim advertised on television. They are also the parents who…

FDA Regulations–I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, these are phony rules meant to fool you. The impression is that the FDA stands at the flood gates to our food supply with muscles flexed–one hand holding the laws of the land and the other ready to be raised to a “Stop” command. If…

Let’s face it, it’s a basic reality: Fast food and Obesity go hand in hand. But because we’re not getting this fact hammered into our heads on a daily basis by a stream of news stories, a lot of people just don’t get it. In fact, where do you see this mentioned at all any…

Many people look to the FDA as their guardian at the gates, a noble institution that protects consumers with all its rules and regulations. But with careful scrutiny of the FDA history and current policies, a much different and sinister scenario unfolds: For over a century, FDA “regulations” are really what made it possible for…

The chemical additives that they put in drinks these days don’t exactly make for a guilt-free eating experience. You’ve just ordered a diet soda with lunch. You’re on a diet, trying to take off a few pounds. It makes sense to drink something with the word “diet” on it that has “0″ calories. A friend of…

You’ve just bitten into a pastry or donut at your local coffee shop. It’s so fluffy, so flaky. You really don’t want to know, but just to make sure, you ask to see the list of ingredients (by law, they have to show you). There it is: “partially-hydrogenated oil” or margarine (same thing). You say…

When standard grocery stores advertise the commercial produce they sell, they usually emphasize them as being “farm fresh,” “fresh,” “freshly-picked,” “luscious,” etc. But, lurking beneath the surface of these reassuring, mouth-watering descriptions is a truly unbelievable amount of agricultural pesticides! In fact, for those Americans who actually eat fruits and vegetables, only a small percentage…

In our last blog many people were surprised to learn that many of what we consider “simple” day-to-day health problems can be seen as effects of malnutrition. Getting our eyeglass prescription changed to a stronger one or going to the dentist for a cleaning only to find out that we have three cavities actually means…
